  • Overview

    Summary of Position: The Director, Commercial Product Management is responsible for leading and directing UPC’s commercial product lines to achieve the company’s growth and profitability goals nationwide through market and product  analysis, research and development, ongoing management of attritional loss ratios, total exposure management, and supporting all efforts to manage reinsurance costs.  In addition, the Director, Commercial Product Management will have a shared responsibility with the Chief Revenue Officer and other members of Senior Management to develop and achieve the annual business plan for the programs under their management. The position is responsible for the complete management and Profit & Loss for the entire product line. Lastly, the position is charged with main responsibility for new state/product entry, growth and profitability.

    Organizational Relationships: The Director of Commercial Product Management reports to the Chief Operating Officer. This position also has regular contact with the company’s vendors, as well as all other company departments, and the distribution force.


    Job Responsibilities:

    • Manage P&L for admitted Commercial lines of business
    • Lead, Direct, and Develop staff to achieve annual product management goals
    • Create and uphold a product management culture
    • Create consistency by state/product to support speed to market
    • Expansion into new states and products.
    • Implement and monitor ongoing portfolio optimization process in order to minimize reinsurance costs
    • All rate & form filings including consultation with legal/claims to ensure contract language adheres to corporate direction
    • Data – obtain, store, and manage data. Improvement of data quality
    • Data Reporting – provide accurate, concise, and timely information.
    • Work Business Systems Analysts (BSAs) as needed for programming changes to the products
    • Conduct audits and business reviews of all agents/accounts as needed or determined by Senior Management.
    • Other duties or projects not defined in this position description as directed by Senior Management


    Qualifications: Ten years of P&C Insurance experience with a strong working knowledge of Commercial Property with emphasis on Commercial residential lines of business. Minimum of five years in Product Management with product management leadership in the Commercial Property product; college degree required; professional designations preferred. Experience with statistical & predictive modeling, and strong knowledge of standard Homeowner contract language and regulatory environments are required.

    Environmental Demands: The duties of this position are typically performed in an office setting. There may be some minimal road and air travel involved.


    Physical Requirements: This position requires minimal physical exertion. However, in order to properly perform the functions of the job, good speaking and hearing skills are required. 


    Mental Requirements: Skills necessary for the effective performance of this position’s job functions include: advanced decision-making and analytical abilities, excellent interpersonal skills, effective problem-solving, oral and written communication capabilities, ability to fully utilize computers and computer programs.
